Codechella

On December 16, 2022, two UCSD engineering professors, Nate Delson from MAE and Lelli Van Den Einde from SE, led a workshop at Southwest Middle School to increase engagement and interest in careers in STEM and computer science. The event, Codechella, was organized by the school STEAM Coordinator, Erin Cecily Barrón, who is also a UCSD grad (‘03, &’09) with a B.S. in EBE Biology, an M.Ed. and Single Subject teaching credential!

During the event, the 7th and 8th graders learned how spatial visualization is used in engineering and then completed a challenge involving sketching and folding flat patterns to create 3D shapes. Nate and Lelli were assisted by their sons Zach and Zack who were home from college over winter break.
