ShanghaiRanking began publishing world university rankings by academic subjects in 2009 and introduced the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) in 2017, covering 54 subjects across various fields. The 2022 GRAS includes rankings for over 1,800 universities from 96 countries, utilizing academic indicators like research output, influence, collaboration, quality, and international awards, with the latter based on the Academic Excellence Survey conducted by ShanghaiRanking and involving over 1,000 professors from top universities.
